Some GLAZE questions...

I tried doing some research, but I'm still confused.

1) What exactly is a glaze?
2) When is it applied in the detailing process?
3) What are some good glazes?

Thanks all!

I might be wrong but i think a glaze fills in the swirls and light scraces not removieng them... Meg makes some glazes but I have never used them

Lot's of variances, you have ones heavy in oil, heavy in oil and fillers, and then you have something like XMT Finishing Glaze thats like a combo cleaner/oil/carnauba. Some like RMG have fine abrassives that also allow nice final polishing.

I went with XMT glaze as it isn't heavy in fillers, and has a nice base thats more duable to work with, some people like it better "lookswise" then RMG which if thats the case then I can't wait to use it and top it. It's also a carnauba base so will last longer then normal glazes. You generally apply a glaze after polishing and then top witha wax, though a few rare sealants like EX-P can bond over a glaze pretty well, must be the resin makeup of EX-P (try that with others and you'll have a smear fest). Danase Wet Glaze is another different glaze as it doesn't really have correcting ability and has no cleaners, more of an acrylic gloss enchancer that again is more durable then a normal glaze but really adds great wettness and depth .

It's my understanding that glazes are applied before your wax or sealant to enhance the wet look. Like Surfer said they all seem to be a little different. I'm using XMT Glaze. It says that it is a gentle cleaning polish and wax in one. It says that it will remove light haze and fine swirls. It does this and lays down a layer of high gloss carnauba wax. Probably a light coat. I plan to follow up with my paste wax.

ClearKote RMG and Pinnacle XMT glaze are some of the best glazes out there.

i think xmt would look pretty good on his black truck, if he has already polished most swirls out...

Lauren is correct..as a rule of thumb glaze should not be used under a sealant.. due to the oils in the glaze sealants won't bond well with the surface.
