Interior cleaning: best way to concourse carpets?

Hey guys,

I followed the guide on Pressure wash carpets with woolite combo. But I want to clarify because I see a lot of S&Ss with ncie concoursed carpet.

What's the procedure, and what chemical should be my go to most of the time? I will buy a spot treating chemical from the store...

What do I do first?

1) Vacuum (I know this for sure)

2) ?? It's probably spray the crap out of it with chemical then rinse it and suck up the water with a vacuum right? Problems: i) Which chemical? ii) if no rinse, then what?

3) concourse by vacuuming (i've done it before)

Okay, so my post is all over the place. I actually wanted to ask one last thing, when cleaning carpet that isn't removable (i.e. not the mats) what do I do to keep them clean looking and how do I concourse them effectively?

First I take the mats out and dry brush them and give them a once over with the shop vac(rigid 6.5)

I use a cyclo carpet brush and air polisher as my shampoo brush, spray carpets with carpet shampoo let dwell for a few minutes then brush, if they were really bad I will then rinse with the PW

Then I run the extrator over them to remove dirt and soil, final pass is made in opposite directions to achieve groomed stripes

CARPETS, I purge the entire vehicle with compressed air, using a stiffer parts cleaning brush(available at snapon or other mechanics stores) to brush out any corners or crevices that may need it

I then vacuum the entire car
after most of the interior cleaning is complete, I spray any spots or stains with appropriate spot treatments, I then spray all the carpets with shampoo and let dwell, I then use various brushes depending on space to agitate

Extract all the carpets, then pat dry with MF towel(even the extractor will leave a little bit of moisture

I then groom the carpets with a 2x2 soft bristle brush, working in opposite directions to acheive desired pattern.

I always thought you use the vaccum and a rectangular shaped but and vacuum in opposite directions!

So it's a soft bristle brush you go over in alternating patterns eh? That explains how you can get it on every surface...i'm going to grab one of these from wal-mart.

Remove trash=mats removed=vacuum mats+interior=spray heavy spots and stains w/Folex=spray everything w/Woolite 8:1=agitate w/carpet brush (I use the PC white brush and AG hand brush)=wipe with MF's=stripes w/vac or brush=heavy areas again=heavily soiled mats get PW.
note: don't soak through to carpet matting/backing or you risk mold/mildew.

Woolite® has a number of issues that do not lend themselves to the long-term quality care of interior carpets / mats and components. Using a detergent that is meant to be flush rinsed (i.e. rinsed until it runs clear) in a situation were this is not possible, is not recommended as when it dries it will attract dirt and contribute to re-soiling; it will also dry out the surface its applied too due to dried soaps capillary action with moisture.

Good to know info TOGWT. Got to admit that I've been a follower in the Woolite/carpet care. What do you use?
On another issue your last sentenence (dry out the surface) leaves me with the question of why you recommend Woolite on leather? Just curious and open to your recommendations.

I'm going to get a dedicated carpet shampoo in future. Woolite tends to dry and leave an odd smell.

I'll have a spot treater + some diluted carpet shampoo (probably 8:1 or 10:1) and scrub.

Anyone know if I can use the PC carpet brush with the UDM?

Hey guys, quick last point will the circular brush that comes with my wet/dry shop vac be suitable for concoursing the carpets and carpeted surfaces?

Yes, PC or UDM.

Your wet/dry vac brush probably isn't stiff enough for stripes. Here's the brush that I use by hand. If not the brush by hand I vac them in with the plastic attachment.

So no more posts from you recommending Woolite for interior cleaning purposes? Thats good, now maybe people will listen when we say not to use Woolite on the interior. Dont forget about the brighteners it has in it.

Woolite doesnt have a purpose in detailing when you do things right guys. Yes, I use to use it, but I learned how to do it correctly.
