Headlight Restoration

A while back a guy at the tech school that i was going to asked me if i could clean his headlights up. i told him i'd bring my stuff down and one day when we werent doing anything there, we would restore them.

PRODUCTS:
soapy water
electric sander
600 grit wet/dry sand paper
2000 grit wet/dry sand paper
3m fine cut rubbing compound
Meguiar's PlastX

PROCESS:
1. wet sand headlight with 600 grit until all the years of crap came off the headlight.

2. then wet sand with the 2000 grit to get the 600 grit sanding marks off and to clear the headlight up some.

3. pulled out the electric drill and an orange pad and polished with 3m rubbing compound until no scratches remained.

4. changed to a black pad and polished with meg's plastX to improve the clarity.

Re: Headlight Restoration

I have learned that if you are any good at painting to put a clear coat on the lights and it will stop this from happening at all.
