Rotary Speeds

This came up on another forum, but who here uses their at 3000RPM? Yes that is RPM. I'll admit that I am not a pro but I just wanted to know if any pro's out there use their rotary at 3000RPM for polishing.

Thanks in advance.

I've never used that high an RPM, nor would I ever consider doing so. Too much heat generated too quickly. Great way to burn the paint/CC.

I'm usually in the 1100 - 1500 range. The highest I've gone is maybe around 1800 on some stubborn swirls.

3000 RPM is to high...I start my polish out at 900 rpm to spread it out..then raise it to 1500-1700 rpm's tops...I use 2000 to work a scratch for a few seconds but thats just for a hard spot..but mostly I work at 1500 rpms....Menzerna recommends 1500-1700 rpms to work their polish effectively.so do a few others...

I went up to 3000 for fun of it on the top of my camper shell while it was on the ground. I used megs #84 and the edge orange pad w/a dewalt. 3000 is so ridiculously fast, and fun. I felt like i reached a peak of effectiveness around 2400 rpms. I did this in a really controlled situation with a good stance and form, but on a wierd panel or body position, I can't imagine always feeling in control. Man, i never thought as a kid that i would be saying that buffing would be a new extreme sport for me later in life.

3000 rpm wow that's crazy...I agree with Al. Maximum that I've used the rotary is 1500 rpm and that felt good, it felt just right. I agree though there are some compund that require heat to break down properly, that's when you may need to go to 1800 to 2000 rpm.
