Swirl removal help

Hey everyone, I just got my PC w/ XL pad kit and other stuff in the mail from AG and started out on my car. I have a long road trip planned this week, so I only wanted to do a small panel to get a feel for it. So I did my trunk with mostly positive results. Now the problem...

My car is a 2006 GTO in Impulse Blue Metallic. So my swirl marks don't show up too easy, but you can definitely see they are there under flourescent light at an angle. So I started off with a Wolfgang white pad with Pinnacle XMT UFSR, but that wasn't really doing much. So I hooked up the W-Orange pad with XMT FSR. This took off about 80% of the marks on the trunk. The ones that are left are pretty deep and they almost look like paint defects from the factory (they just don't match the other swirls). Should I switch to a W-Yellow pad with the Intermediate swirl remover, or the Orange pad with the Intermediate to fix the heavier swirls? The yellow pad seems like it would be a little too heavy for a car in this condition.

BTW, the trunk has a look to it that I have never seen before in terms of deepness of shine and color quality. I had just hand applied Zaino before and I can definitely tell the difference. Thanks for the help.

Since you've tried XMT2/Orange pad, I'd just bump up to XMT3/Orange pad. I've used XMT and love it. You're right about the paint having a look you've never seen before. I was surprised to see the difference in my 1999 Explorer.

bump up your polish before you bump up your pad. Your orange pad with the XMT 3 should be all you need.

Thanks, I figured I should go with a heavier polish before a harsher pad. Just wanted to check with the experts.

Youll never get me to use a yellow LC pad ... much to aggressive. Orange is a stopping point, and polishes range from finishing to compound as needed. The remember you might need to repolish with a lighter polish and lighter pad to remove any light hazing or micromarring.
