Heavy Oxidation

One of the reasons I'm getting the pc is my dads 89 thunderbird SC. (good excuse LOL) And I'v always loved maintaining my vehicles.
Its red and has heavy oxidation. In fact I think the clearcoat is coming off the hood or could be very heavy oxidation. I'm hoping it's just really bad oxidation.
My question is what product and pad would you recommend for getting this off.
Sorry I don't have any pics but may be able to get one in a few days.
Thanks for the advice.

Check out this thread. All I used on that truck was XMT2 and an orange Edge 2000 pad. I had to switch to a red meguiar's pad halfway through, but any cutting pad and the XMT2 would have worked fine. You could also use just a straight paint cleaner like Klasse All In One and get good results. I've got examples of oxidation removal on OCDetails.com

I detailed a Taurus, few days ago that had bad oxidation and swirls. I just got Poorboys SSR3 and wanted to try it out. I normally would use AIO or Megs #83. I have XMT products, and thanks to OCDetail link, I got to try it on some bad paint. Anyhoo, here the link.
