Porter cable rpm's?

I ordered some of the edge pads and was reading up on how to install and use them etc. anyway it says not to go over 1800 to 2000 rpms. I am now drawing a blank as far as my porter cable is concerned. Does that mean I can't run the machine over the number 2? If that is not correct how do I know how many rpm's It is turning at? Thanks
