Re: Help With Polished/Chrome Rims

My Iforged have been on car since new, about 3 years. Most would suggest they still look new ...

Holly crap . . . that's what im talking about. Have your rims ever got as bad of shape as mine though? That is really crazy that they still look like that. Are they chrome or polished? clear or non clear coated? I need to get that stuff you recommended and give it a shot.

Re: Help With Polished/Chrome Rims

Looks like you have some scratches on those rims, i would use 2000 grit sandpaper on them. It doesn't sound like they have any clear coat on them since its turning your rag black.
I used 2000-3000grit sandpaper combo on my rims (although they only have a metal/chrome lip) with some elbow grease they look much better.
Also had some other metal parts clear powder coated but that didnt really help and cleaning that is a pain, so i learned my lesson not to clear coat bare polished metal (metal sealant is ok ).

Take the rim off and experiment on the back of it for best results.

taking sand paper to these rims scares me a little bit only because they were so expensive. I'll give thst some thought though . . . thanks for the input.

these wheels are uncoated high polished aluminum and a bear to clean. I will go back to chrome in future for easier maintenance. They never have gotten real bad, but problem with all aluminum wheels is they are always in a state of tarnish or degrade.

so i'm guessing that it is the same as my rims. Now if the rims are in a constant state of tarnish and degrade is can i still bring them back without having to sand? I can't seem to get a answer from anyone as far as if the rims i have are clear coated or not, but i don't think they are. I still need to and will be ordering the stuff you recommended real soon to give that a shot. Looks like it does wonders though.

Re: Help With Polished/Chrome Rims

its alot of elbow grease too ... no easy way to win. Keep em sealed, even if only using a spray wax or sealant weekly after washing and try to use the least aggressive wheel cleaner as needed.

I'll make sure to do that. I am just hoping that my drill is powerful enough to handle that little wool ball you showed me.

I just want to make one good order for my rims . . . so what you listed for me previously would be what you suggest to help get my rims back on track?
