Spit Shine Question

Was reading the thread on spit shining and the theory behind it.

Would it make any sense to use cold CM to dampen the paint before using the carnauba versus cold water? I'm guessing you want nearly frozen water as the spritz, so merely using cold CM would not work as well?

You can use CM if you want. Killr was talking about how if you use CM and then Souv, you get great results. You should be able to use the same technique for spit shining. It is best if it is near freezing, but cold will work because you just want to "shock" the particles so they harden up so you can add more wax without the solvents messing everything up.

Thanks. I tried it with some "cold" (about 45-50F) CM and it seemed to give the surface alittle more "pop" on a red C5. I had NB, TS, and Souv previously layered on it and then did the "spit shine" with Souv. Always looking for that proverbial "perfect shine"...lol.

I never found any true benefit in spit shine as far as looks and durability, but I do see so minor differences using CM to remove Souveran while damp. Never thought to chill it ...

My main reason for spit shining is for durability. I've had souveran last 2 1/2 months over "winter" here in florida. That was with 3 layers.

Would use use near frozen water spritz, or well chilled QD? I'm gonna strip down soon, and spit shine even though my suv is white. Two layers of EX-P again but want to spit shine 3 layers of Natty's Blue and then top with Aquawax.

Normally I would have thought multiple layers of a carnauba would diminsh looks, but just saw pics of a car on autopia with 7 layers of that Zymol Concours, holy crap did it look good.

i've never used QD to spit shine before, I've only used water.

Keep it in the freezer until it starts to freeze over. Ideally you want the top inch or so of the water frozen into ice. try and find a bottle that has a very fine mist. The finer the water droplets, the better the area is going to get cooled off.
