Nasty Interior Smell

My mother has and Expedition that a few years ago my
neices spilled sea water, that contained live crabs,
on the carpet. The smell is unbearable. She took
it to a couple detailers and they were unable to
remove the smell. I don't believe they pulled
up the carpet to take care of it. What are
your recommendations?

Re: Nasty Interior Smell

I haven't done this but have seen other threads where guys pulled the seats (back two benches in an Expedition easy), pulled the carpet, and replaced the felt padding. The carpet was cleaned while it was out. The old felt pad was used as a template for the new felt. It's not too expensive for new felt.
Caution: front seats with side airbags you need some disconnect info.

Re: Nasty Interior Smell

yup I agree, you would have to rip it apart to rid it of the smell.

Re: Nasty Interior Smell

extractor, fogger, and even Duragloss odor remover would likely help but not entirely remove smell.

Re: Nasty Interior Smell

Thanks guys. I never thought about just replacing
the felt. I thought I would have to replace the entire
carpet for her. This helps alot.
