Re: Perma Plate

You have to realize that what you are buying is not the product itself, rather a warranty. The salesmen are trained to think that it is this great product that will do miracles (when it doesn't), so this is where all the misconception comes from. PermaPlate as a warranty will fix your paint if it becomes oxidized, or your seats fade, or anything that would be considered normal wear and tear. Unfortunately, Permaplates warranty isn't so great and there are a lot of loop holes in it. Zxilon is another one, and their warranty tends to be a little better, but you are simply comparing apples to apples.

For those that don't know, PermaPlate sells the salesmen on the fact that it coats the car in Teflon (which we all know the story to) for years on end, and everything will just slide off. Zxilon sells people on the fact that you can spray spray paint on it, and it will wipe right off and that it was developed for Boeing. What they don't tell you with Zxilon is that it is only used on a small metal piece and Boeing states that 'it can reduce wear' and nothing more on the product. What PermaPlate doesn't tell you is that it takes an extremely high temperature to bond Teflon to the surface, and Zxilon seems to leave out the fact that Boeing doesn't actually recommend their product. Oh, and as for the spray paint trick, spray paint won't bond to petroleum based products, which it is (and believe me, it has a VERY strong smell and you need to wear gloves to put it on).

Overall, I say for the $500+ charge, it is FAR from worth it. With that much, you can order some VERY easy to use products from AG that will not only product your surface better, not only do you not have to worry about crappy loopholes in a warranty, but your car will look better as well and be easier to maintain. Trust me, a well maintained and waxed car is MUCH easier to wash/clean. The only miracle-product out there is that is the key to ALL of your automotive questions is:

Maintenance, maintenance, maintenance!

So how do they heat the paint on your vehicle to apply this stuff?

Re: Perma Plate

Im going to offer this one more time .... any paint sealant or protection the dealer offers is hogwash. Each manufacturer has already warrantied paint/finish for a specific time period and the paint manufacturer also includes these to the manufacturer. Thus if a clearcoated modern finish can last over 5 years with no protection, what are you truly paying for .... not even a warranty. Save some money and time, wash and protect yourself or spend 100.00 annually and have a professional due it. Not because its absolutely necessary, but because it will extend the life of your finish.

They don't. They have a product basically is a crappy sealant with Teflon thrown in, and nothing more.

Killerwheels said it well; all those dealer applied miracle things never work. It is simply highway robbery from people who don't know any better, and with that much money, you could even pay neighborhood kids for 5 years (or more) to wash/wax your car!

Re: Perma Plate

I think a lot of what is being said here is true, however the reason car dealers
sell these products is to attempt to make some profit on the sale of new vehicles. It is rare for a car dealer these days to make money on new cars because buyers are aware of dealer vehicle cost and in most cases even dealer holdback. I have several dealer customers and friends, and most of them will lose money so the customer can drive a nice new car. I am familiar with Perma Plate products and warranty, and basically what they offer is a fairly decent initial application (dealer applied), a nice maintenance kit for the customer to take home after the initial dealer application is applied, and a warranty for a selected period of time. I will agree with the comment that the warranty is where the value is. The manufacturer may provide a warranty on the paint and other parts of the vehicle, however Perma Plate and other Paint and Fabric Protection Companies, because of the business relationship they have with the dealer, will in most cases, bend over backwards to make a customer happy.
" If we can't bring the vehicle back to the original condition when it left the dealership, then we will replace the damaged areas of the paint, fabric, and leather." This is how they sell it. I think most dealers pay around 100-150 for the program from the sealant company, and most dealers will cap the selling cost around $500. If the dealer sells one these products to the consumer and applies the product for the consumer, provides a rental car while the product is being applied, sells the car to the consumer for 500 over invoice, that is a fair deal. The dealer will make a fair profit and the customer gets a good deal. Just my experience. Hope it is helpful.
