Help choosing my first detailing package?

    Hi guys!

I'm looking at all the how-to's, but unfortunately most of the reccomended products I can't seem to source in Canada.

Can someone help me pick comparable products from this site: Auto Obsessed - auto detailing services and car care products - Edmonton, Alberta, Canada

I'm starting absolutely from scratch, and my head is spinning looking at all the choices for wheel brushes, foam wax applicators, etc. etc!

    Thanks!!

PS Based on what I'm reading so far, I should add that I intend to wash and wax by hand, no machine buffers or pressure washers.

Though this might change as I read more..

I should also add that I am starting with a brand new car, so won't need polishers, cleaning waxes or wax removers..

Ye Gods! My wishlist at Auto Obsessed would pay for my trailer hitch! LOL

Like I say, any help regarding the 'best' brand names as regards to shampoos, leather care, microfiber clothes, finishing waxes, etc. would be greatly appreciated!

there is lots of stuff on the market, not all products are created equal, if you want something that is very good and not too expensive, look at the duragloss line
the soap is very good for the price, then you can apply by hand some DG501 or DG105 that should be good for about 5-6 months of protection if mixed with the DG601 (I mix 4 parts 105: 1 part 601).

the 501/105 products have some chemical cleaners in them, so no need for a pre wax cleaner.

then you will need 2 buckets and 2 grit guards, a couple of microfiber wash mitts, and a couple of MF drying towels, and you are in business

For a wax, I and many others on this forum would easily recommend Collinite 845. I dont know if they would ship to you, but for the quality its worth the call to their office. Also have you considered whether you want to do a wax, a sealant, or both.

I wouldn't assume that because the car is new that it doesn't need to be polished. Many things can happen to the surface prior to you taking delivery of the vehicle. Do a search for DISO (Dealer Installed Swirl Option) here on the forum to see some of the horror stories of new cars that have been delivered with less than perfect paint. Here is one you will find: http://www.autogeekonline.net/forum/...rl-option.html

Help choosing my first detailing package?

if it is your daily driver and you not looking for perfect show car finish then i would recommend with the following:

    Duragloss 901
    Meguiars ultimate polish
    Meguiars ultimate spray wax
    Meguiars quik interior detailer
    Meguiars D101
    303 AP
    Meguiars supreme shine microfiber
2 bucket grid guard + your favorite wash media

    you can add stuff later

    Regards

Also have you considered whether you want to do a wax, a sealant, or both.
After doing more reading, I was looking at doing the wheels (washing, sealing), then hand washing (Optimum was what I was looking at), drying with microfiber, then using a clay bar (every 6 months), and using Wolfgang Deep Gloss Paint Sealant V3.0 on top of that, with a good quick detailer wax spray in between tri-annual all-out waxing jobs.

Thoughts? I'm doing to check out your guys' suggestions now..

I used the wolfgang pre cleaner and deep gloss paint sealant with very good results on the wifes car, lasted a full 6 months. it's good stuff!
