Re: What masking tape do you prefer?

The 3M Precision Masking Tape showed up at me local Pep Boys this week

    Same price as 233+

Because it doesn't have the crepe backing, the roll looks like it doesn't have much tape on it. Did a double take

For tape that leaves no residue, search for Mike Phillips article on burning tape.

Same price, Kyle? I'll keep my eyes open. I pay about $3 a roll for the yellow 06552 tape and I like it. But if I can find 06529 for anywhere near the 233 price I'd like to try it.

My Pep Boys doesn't carry the yellow

233+ and Precision were the same price today

    I think $5.99

Yeah, that's a price I'm ready to pay. I can get 233+ locally for around $6 a roll, or online for $4. Best I've seen for 06529 (the 3/4" Precision) is close to $9 each. Uh, no thanks.

6529 is over kill for detailing, that ipg tape I posted is a comparable tale to the 233 at a much better cost. We sell a lot of that compared to the 3m products.

I looked for it and could only find the 505 for around $4 a roll if I got a case of 12 or more. If I got that many I'd have to get out the FoodSaver and vacuum seal a few rolls to keep them "fresh" for a year. I just don't detail enough cars to buy by the case!

CarPro just released their own line of masking tape. I will be getting some with my next non AG order.

It may say Carpro but I'd bet $100.00 it's not made by them, just branded for them. Their are only a few manufacturer's of quality masking tape in the USA, I can count them on one hand.

    From their website:
CarPro masking tape is manufactured in an ISO 9002 registered plant to meet worldwide quality standards.
