Please help me with my poor neglected car :(

Hi all, I'm new here, obviously and I need your help. I have a 2006 car that has been pretty neglected for the last couple of years. The most wax it's had is a spray wax for about the last 3-4 years.

This weekend I plan on spending some time healing her wounds. For the most part the paint is in decent shape, but there's a couple of scratches and small paint chips (probably from rocks) on the front of the hood and the front bumper.

I was thinking about using some rubbing compound to try to help with the scratches, but will it help with the small paint chips as well?

Any help that you guys can provide me with would be awesome!!!

Also, if I posted this in the wrong place, I'm sorry.

Stay away from anything that says "rubbing compound" on it, you can thank me later.

What exactly are you trying to do? Work with products you can buy at Walmart or are you trying join the cult that we belong to?

For your 1st attempt at improving the look of your vehicle, I suggest Meguiar's Cleaner Wax in the maroon bottle

It is available at most auto parts stores

It will clean up the paint, bring back a lot of the shine and leave behind a layer of protection from the elements

If you are not satisfied with the look yet, then your addiction will begin

Here are some very good tutorials:

I want my car to look good, I recently bought some Meguiars spray wax and used it, then decided it wasn't good enough. I live in Las Vegas and need to protect it from the sun and wind (I park in the garage at home. I don't want to join the "cult" but can easily see that happening, I used to wax my 86 Volvo every other month. My main objective for now is to restore the shine, try to get rid of the scratches (not deep ones) and fix or reduce the rock chips as much as possible. I restored the headlights last weekend, it's kinda nice to be able to see when I drive at night :P

Rock chips require touch up paint or a kit such as Dr. Colorchip (sold here at AG). As mentioned above pictures help us help you....post them here.

I used to enjoy/recommend that product also, and still have it. However, in today's world, it's hard to accept that level of trim staining when there are products like Duragloss 501 or Optimum Poli-Seal (and I'm sure I'm forgetting a couple more), which may be available locally or easily online.

Or, as was suggested, some Meguiar's Ultimate Polish (or Compound + Polish) followed by Ultimate Wax.

    Winner!

The first car I ever corrected was our long-neglected Subaru Outback. I used these products, but finishded with Meg's Deep Crystal Wax rather than the paste. Results were far better than I would have imagined. All are very "new user" friendly.
