I see the description for DP Gel and Wolfgang Gel states they are water based but the Pinnacle Black Onyx Gel does not. I'm sure it is, but can anyone confirm?

I feel that way too. I really don't care about shine but I want the tire black and even. Looks aside it also seems to me any protective value of dressing wouldn't matter much since few ever clean or dress the other side of the tire.

What I really want is just the tires to be protected, be black the way they should be, and last a long time. If it's a super flat look, I wouldn't care

Tires that are dressed(doesn't have to be blingy) are always a complement to the detail to me. Completes the detail IMO.

Same! I just wish there is actually a "sealant" or something for tires and trim, well at least something that will last more than a month

Hey tire gel's last longer than a month with the right tyre preparation and about four coats and make sure you never shampoo the tires.

Re: Silicone or Water Based Tire Dressing: What's better and Why?

Unfortunately permagard use solvent based in their gel but seems to be ok to use so far.

A couple brands not sold here are my go to petroleum and silicone free tyre shine for basic detailing jobs and interior protection
