Direct sunlight does not particularly relate to ambient temps. In direct sunlight, the paint has the potential to reach much higher temps than the ambient air temp - especially darker colored vehicles. A cooler ambient air temp will help to reduce surface temps, but they can still be dangerously high and can have adverse effects on product usage and can even potentially damage the paint if you are buffing because you will be increasing surface temps even more due to the friction between the pads and the paint.

Yeah, what he said ... as long as the surface temp of the car is cool or just mildly warm to the touch, you should be OK. A hot surface takes the working time of a product and makes it near zero, so in effect you'll be buffing your car dry ... not a good thing
