Swirl and Hologram removal recommendations

I'm a noob and have been lurking on AG and the AG forum for about a month. Here's a little history. My daily driver is a 2005 Subaru WRX in Obsidian Black Pearl paint. Unfortunately, the busyness of life got the best of me and I did not take care of my vehicle. It just turned 100,000 and I thought I should clean it up so I searched the interwebs and located AG. I put many things into my cart and took many things out....I added new things and deleted new things....I drove myself crazy. I thought I found an easy way out and had a local detailer install these swirls all over my car. He washed, very quickly clay barred the car, used a Dewalt rotary and some 3M product (not sure which) and topped it off with some Black Box Turtle wax product. (everyone cringes).

I am looking for some recommendations on what products would be successful to correct this paint. My current process consists of:

Wash and dry
Claybar (I have the Mother's California Gold Box w/Showtime)
Wash and dry

I have considered the M105/M205 combo and the XMT Heavy Swirl removal kit. Are there any finishing products recommended after these?

What products are recommended for use with a DA (since I have no experience)?

I feel your pain, a body shop did that to my car and it pissed me off. The m105/m205 combo will do just about anything. That seems to be the indusry standard. You can also try the meg MF DA correction system. Welcome to AG!

yes meg da microfiber correction system kit from autogeek a no brainer you have to get it the pads and the compond and polish in the are matched up... use a s apple pie

From what I have seen, Subaru paint is incredibly soft. A good practice is to perform a test spot and use the least aggressive method. I would start with M205 on a white pad and step up to an orange pad if needed. You'll want to avoid using M105 since you're new. But it can be used with great results.

Ouch...as the others have said the Meg's DA MF system is great, easy to use, etc. If you want to make it easy, order this: Meguiars G110v2 DA Microfiber Correction System Complete Kit Or you can pick your own kit components.

Body shops wow!!! As other have said you can go with the M105/M205 combo or the DAMF system both with yeild great results and rid you of all those nasty holograms.

Pics like this never cease to amaze me. I bet they think they are doing top quality work too. I agree with rider, m205 should clean that right up.

Yep, as soon as I got my car back, I put it in the sun and viola! The sad thing is the paint work is perfect. And the even sadder thing is, it took me 15 minutes to fix it and im a novice.

Any opinions on the XMT kits for swirl removal? And the wife says, "send me links to what you would like for anniversary and Christmas". I linked her to AG.net and said one of everything! But if that's not doable check my registry! Go Tigers!

I've used XMT Fine Swirl Remover #2 with great results. It is very similar to M205 although IMO it smells much better. Maybe I am weird but when a product smells really nice it does make it more enjoyable to work with... especially when you are using it for hours on end polishing up a whole car.

From the looks in the pics XMT FSR2 or M205 would easily clean up all the haze and holograms left by the previous "detailer." My worry would be that the paint hasn't actually been corrected to your satisfaction and has merely been "masked" by all the holograms and fillers. I would consider having some D300 MF compound on hand as a "just in case" type of thing. I really like how D300 cuts with foam or MF pads and would be WAY easier to work with than M105 especially if you are just learning.
