Depends on the condition of the chrome. The use a of more aggressive polish on flawless chrome may lead to micro scratches.
On the other hand, use of a non aggressive product on pitted or rusted chrome may not lead to desired results.
My wheels have 98,xxx miles on them. From day one they have received the
Nevr-Dull Wadding Polish treatment on the spokes and rims.
The inner barrels on the other hand, were not polished and plated to the same degree as the face during the manufacturing process; thus leading to the chrome failure.
There's no doubt in my mind that the lesser agressive NEVR-DULL prolonged the life of the chrome.

One of the properties that I look for in a chrome polish is how well it "colors" the chrome.
