New member with new truck

Hi guys,

This is kind of an intro and question all in one. I've been reading this site for a few months, ever since a member on an F150 site sent me this way. So far I really enjoy everything I've seen, and I look forward to spending some time here. So far I've placed two orders for numerous products I never would have thought I needed, but hey it's only money I used to be a serious auto enthusiast when I was into sport cars but in recent years I've really slacked off. My work supplied me a basic F150 that is black and has been a pain to keep clean. As a result, I'm a member of an unlimited plan at a local touchless car wash. I know, I know, but you try driving 50k miles a year...

Anyways, I've recently regained some interest in detailing again since I purchased a new loaded Ford Edge last year. I've also just ordered a fairly loaded nex FX4 F150 and this time around I really want do my best to take care of them.

For the current cars in the fleet I've washed, clayed, and waxed with Colinite 845. Leather has been treated with lexol, glass with Rain-X, wheels with DP wheel glaze, and that's it for now.

My second order has yet to arrive but it contains black diamond wet fire, a whole lot of applicators and micro fiber towels, bottles, and pinnacle paint works cleanser. I plan on re-doing the current fleet with the cleanser, black diamond, and then finally the 845.

My question pertains to the new truck though. How soon can I treat it, and what would be the ideal plan of attack? I believe I should clay due to to rail dust, but then what? Is it too soon for a sealant and wax? How long should I wait to start cleaning and conditioning the leather?

DA Polsher? I had planned to buy one last week, but the father-in-law informed me that Santa may be bringing one. I informed Santa he should wait until the AG Black Friday deals come out!

So is there anything that actually needs to wait before being treated on the new truck? I've heard that it's best to wait a few months before touching the clear on a new truck, so it can cure?

looks good so far but off the top of my head........you should get some clay,and drop the Lexol(IMHO and IME not very good)

for your leather I would recomend Optimum Power clean and Optimum Protenctant Plus.


You are good to go on working on your truck now if you like......the factory paint is baked on and has probably sat in a lot for months before you took delivery.

I knew I forgot something...I have a Meguiars smooth surface clay kit!

The truck was ordered directly from the factory it will most likely be delivered within 1-2 weeks of it's birth.

Still a non-issue? Winter is going to be in full force so I may have to hold off and wait...but the first 50*+ day and it's on!

No doubt. I did my girlfriends Mini Cooper yesterday and this morning. It's a 2009, has 25k miles, and has been washed HUNDREDS of times at the Car Wash. She's absolutely insane about keeping it clean even though she's destroying the finish.

I wish I had my DA already, some pads, and some polishes but I'm stuck waiting. Guess I'll just have to strip the wax back off, and do it all over again

As a side note...her car was so bad it ruined a new bar of clay. There was so much road grime, sap, and overspray from a bumper repair it was DISGUSTING.
