Yes, definitely.
A person has to be very careful when working on bird dropping etching like these because the cracks or fissures where the paint has wrinkled can vary in depth.
The risk is to try to keep improving the area by sanding and or buffing more and more and then whoops! you go through the clear and expose the basecoat.
That's why it's a little dangerous and risky to try to remove 100% a Type II Bird Dropping Etching, especially if the car does not below to you.

Re: Interesting results from new Meguiar's Microfiber DA Correction System
This just makes me want that new system that much more, Mike. All this teasing and no official word from Meguiar's about the system or its release/availability date is killing me!
Just curious, but would an electronic PTG like the Posi-Test you guys sell be sensitive enough to measure the depth of a Type-II Etch like that? I haven't come across one since acquiring my Cen-Tech PTG to try it with.
If measuring the wrinkles would work, that could come in very handy and maybe even make 100% removal of the etch possible if there was enough clear there to play with....

The new system is supposed to launch in this month, (December), or January, I spoke with Jason Rose just yesterday and that was the time frame he gave me. This is not in concrete yet so no hard dates.
I have the production compound, polish/wax and microfiber pads and they work better than the previous versions I've used and I'm confident that most people are going to be blown away with what can be done using "microfiber" pads and the technology behind the new compound and polish/wax and especially using only a DA Polisher.
It's going to enable people brand new to machine polishing, people with no experience or learned skill, to get the kind of show car results that have been reserved pretty much only to Pro's with years and even decades of experience using all kinds of pads, products and tools.
There are other cool new products being made for DA Polishers that we'll see introduced into the future...
Exciting times to be a car guy or car gal...

I'm not sure how one would go about testing the depth of the etchings, or fissures caused by the wrinkling...
I try to keep things simple, in this case I didn't want to sand as I don't need the risk of buying a paint job so I just compounded and polished and stopped.
