Acid damage on chrome rims

Hey All,

A customer purchased a car with chrome rims from an auto auction and it looks like they used an acid spray to clean them. The only way to describe the rims is that they look like milk was splashed on them and then frozen. Has anyone found or heard of a fix to remove the damage? Thanks for the help.

Have you tried a chrome polish.

Some high polished wheels, which look like chrome when polished, actually have a clearcoat over them. Using the wrong wheel cleaner can make them peel or white and turn milky. Usually a professional is needed to strip, or machine wheels.

If certain they are chome and uncoated, try a chrome specific polish and alot of elbow grease or maybe a Mothers Powerball Mini.

That explains why the chrome polish was not working then. Thanks for your input guys

What vehicle is this? There was a article about GM wheels. summary is that GM clears pretty much everything as generally its easiest to maintain. Once that clear starts to go have to get all of it off, then polish back and seal them.

Pics are always helpful as well as knowing the manufacturer. On a similiar note HayesLemmerz makes a ton of wheels to manufacturer's specs. Only reason I know about them is from following the stocks and parts manufactures group.
