Can swirl marks be polish out by hand?
Hi everyone, im new to this forum and car detailing. I have minor swirl marks on my car left the worst body shop I have been to. My car is gray metallic.
I was wondering if it is possible to buff out the swirls marks by hand polishing? I would like to do it by hand because I don't like using power buffers.
Also, what would you guys recommend to buy from this site? There is a lot of products to choose from, but I don't know which to choose.

Hey Buffguy, welcome!
I'm not a pro, but I believe that adding some pics of the swirls to this post will allow the pros on here to give you great advice.
In order to correct your paint and decide what products to purchase, you will have to do some research to understand the car washing/detailing/waxing/paint correction processes.
If you click on the "STORE" link at the top of the page, there is an expert advice section on the "STORE" page, lower left corner, thats a good place to start. Gluck

I believe hand polishing will provide the absolute minimum in correction and require the most work.

I would also be worried about introducing new marks from uneven pressure or incomplete breakdown of the polish. It would be very difficult to breakdown a polish by hand.

im in your boat at the present time. im going to use Poorboys' SSR1 which is a mild abrasive geared towards the elimination of swirl marks. They feel it can be done by hand and in either sun or shade. I will put that info to the test in April when i do my full detail involving this product. you might also want to look into a cleaner from P21S called cleansing lotion. Use the lotion first to rid the car of excess debris as well as clay the car after the initial wash. Good luck.

If your arms look like Arnold the Governator, you have a chance.

Spend the money for the PC or Flex. I did and it was well worth the money.
To remove my hand, I would say you will be done by the time this economic crisis is over. Seriously, buy a nice kit and you will be addicted to the perfect results. I use my PC for everything now including apply the final wax. So much easier with a machine.
I spent years applying Zaino by hand and trying to remove the swirls by hand. You can try to cover them with a glaze or Z5, but they will be there in direct sunlight.

Yes, but it will take a LOT of time and effort. Save you arm and buy a PC.
If you must work by hand I'd suggest some Meguiars Ultimate Compound and SwirlX.

you might as well hang it up now....spend the 150 dollars for a pc and get some real results....using polish designed for a machine by hand is not going to get the job done....you hand just cant produce the power needed to do a correction job....you can get an isolated scratch/swirl out by hand, but to do the whole car is not realilistic....
