Old 3M rubbing compound

I found old bottle of 3M rubbing compound while cleaning my garage. It says removes swirls and scratches.

I now have Menz IP and Menz PO106FA. Is this 3m rubbing compound still good for anything?

I do plan on doing a headlight restoration and sanding with 800-1500-2000 grit. Should I try the 3M rubbing compound or just go with the Menz IP with yellow pad?

Thanks.

Re: Old 3M rubbing compound

If that is the old reddish brown compound that is some strong stuff. I've never used it on auto paint but I did my bathroom counter tops with it. Before I knew what I was doing I worked it at 3000+ rpm's. Dusts like crazy.
Yeah you can use it on your headlights then work down with Menz.

Same here. I was using it to try and hand polish out my 2000 grit sanding marks on my headlights. Light tan in color called "3M Rubbing Compound"

Re: Old 3M rubbing compound

I've got an old bottle of the white finishing compound that HAS to be 6 years old for fun, and it still works fine. Having said that, all my chemicals get brought into the basement for the winter.

Re: Old 3M rubbing compound

toss it ... to many "old" products just sit on shelve taking up space. Especially with the newer and easier to use products.
