Re: Singel Stage Paint aka, enamel paint on old cars

I've heard of an old trick, but never used it myself, as I don't have a car with a single stage paint where you apply Megs #7 before polishing and leave it on for 1 hour. It suppose to "soften" the paint, making it easier to correct...
Again, I never used it, you might try a small section (2'x2'), see if it works out...

Re: Singel Stage Paint aka, enamel paint on old cars

Is it enamel or lacquer? Enamel is particularly tough, it has a "skin" to it that once you cut through, cannot be restored. On enamel, I would stick with a PC and mildly abrasive products.

If it's lacquer, you're in business. Lacquer is my favorite paint type to correct. The #7 trick works very well to restore some of the oils in the paint, then follow with a wool pad and moderate compound via rotary. I prefer wool to foam for lacquer, as the pads tend to cake with paint. Meguiar's #80 or 1Z Metallic Polishwax via Cyclo are my preferred ways to finish out lacquer.
