    Mckee's 37 Paint Coating, revisited

Ok so I had a chance to re do the paint coating from scratch, and this time I followed the directions to the T. I'll keep this as short and to the point as possible.

Started off with a quik waterless wash with Wolfgang Uber.

Then clayed with Meguiars White Claybar using Megs D114 as claylube.

Next I polished with Meguiars M205 on speed 4.5

I noticed that on the trunklid M205 was a bear to wipe off. Very rare to have this happen on my paint with M205, I wondered if it was due to maybe the previous coating application coming off? The hood wiped off with ease.. I did a quik 2nd polish on the trunk just to make sure and it wiped off easy the 2nd time around.

This is what the paint looked like after M205.

About as perfect as I can ask 20 yr. old factory paint to look.

Next came DP Coating Prep Polish.

    Then my phone died....

    Here's my thoughts:
The Mckee's Paint Coating applied like night & day compared to the 1st time using Essence. No weird yellow streaking this time around, it applied clear the way it's supposed to this time around.

The trunk went on near perfect, minimal high spots to wipe away..

The hood was a bit more of a learning experience for me as my hood is rather large and I might've taken upon a bit more area at once than I maybe should've.. [half the hood at a time] I think that lead to overuse or at least too much area at once.. 1st half went ok, 2nd half I had a bit more high spots than I would've liked. I did my best to wipe them away without being overly aggressive with the wiping so I kind of let the tail end of them be and they ended up going away on their own after a while.

Looks good so far, nothing mindblowing. I'm really itching to see the water behavior at this point. I'll keep you guys posted.

That is good to hear that it worked out better.

Give it a few days before you get it wet.

I hope you find as good of results as I have. Both my vehicles have been subject to cold rain and muck from December in Ohio and the are still shining and doing well. The fan has some spots and dirt on it but I swear my wife aims for mud and puddles. Mine just has typical road grime covering it. I hope to Rinseless wash both but definitely mine tonight.

Essence probably would of cut down some time after that jump right to the coating.Essence on a micro cutting or polishing micro would of gave you the same results as 205.just tryin to help you cut down on time.

^^ This an many thanks to GSKR and others for feedback on Essence when I was considering making the move to it. That said, I think he had a bad experience with it the first go-round. Not sure of exactly why but IIRC that's why he took the route he did.

I tried that route about a week ago and the results were poor in every aspect. Ended up with this kind of beading.

Had to re do everything from scratch.

I would do this and see if you don't get better results.

    Wash
    Iron-X
    Clay
Polish with a Green Pad and Essence
    Top with McKee's Paint Coating

I'm not sure why the above turned out like that if you did the above. The only thing I can think of is there's something between the polishing with Essence and coating that interfered with things. Even Essence alone without a coating will bead better than the above.

Middle grade....Yellow, Orange, Green, White, Black....etc.

I use them a lot for All in One Products as they have just enough stiffness/bite to polish but finish extremely well.
