Surf City Beyond Steel vs. Amazing Roll Off – Side By Side Comparison

I have been wanting to do this head to head comparison from the very 1st time I tried the Beyond Steel. My wheels don’t get dirty enough to really do a head to head comparison and doing something like this while on a customer car doesn’t even enter my mind..

Well due to some really heavy dusting ceramic pads I just put on (they will be coming off real soon) my wheels were dirty enough to justify a head to head death match.

FYI: I know my rims are in rough shape - I purchased this car used and the rims were already hit with road rash and just tore up- new shoes to come once the snow melts away for the season!!

Process:
Spray with respective cleaner
Gently agitate
PW Rinse
Wipe with MF

After I pressure rinsed I wanted to do a mf wipe down to show what was left on the rim and ultimately was wiped off

Tools:

Yeah I agree looks like SC may have won that battle. And I like the table, I know what I'll be doing soon!

Are you sure you have ceramic pads on car, and not carbon pads ?? Black dust is usually indicitive of carbon. Either way both seem to have worked well. Now you gotta add some P21S and Dp Wheel Cleaner and have a four-some.

No problemo..doing this kind of stuff is fun to me!

While ARO is no slouch the proof is in the pudding looking at the mf's...I did my best to make it an apples to apples comparison using the same amount of brush strokes for each side and even counting the same brush strokes per spoke opening

Yeah, they are a semi new line the company I work for brought to market. The are ceramics for sure....

Now that sounds like a party!!! I have been meaning to get some p21s..hmmm......

Did you do this on both ront wheels or both rear wheels or did you do one front and one rear?

The front wheels will almost always have more brake dust than the rear, so keep that in mind while testing...

Good test overall, I enjy seeing direct comparisons between products. However the price of ARO does justify it being slightly less effective if it is indeed less effective.

My opinion on wheel cleaners, honestly p12s is very overrated. The only reason I use it is because on expensive wheels, I want zero risk and what else besides p12s can I use that is stronger than car soap while still not taking any risks.

On average wheels I can get away with chemical guys citrus wash and gloss, that stuff is amazing, absolute best car soap I have ever used no contest. On really nasty wheels I use megs wheel brightener, but I always use caution and dilute it a lot since it is very strong and I prefer not using it.

However, optimum is coming out with a wheel cleaner soon... Knowing optimum, it is going to be amazing and be my new go-to.

Cool side-by-side review! Looks like Surf City won that one.
Did you wet the wheels before spraying on the cleaners? ARO suggests wetting the surface before spraying because of it's water-activated cleaners. Just wondering.

Nice job on the side by side. This is the kind of thing that makes this forum rock. Someone like MotorCity takes time out of his life to pass along info to the rest of us. I don't have either one of those products but now I have a good idea of how they compare to each other.

This test was done on two front wheels....I was trying to keep it an "apples to apples" comparison. Even down to the amount/angle/effort of the agitation brush strokes.

You bring up a VERY good point and one that I think needs to be addressed. ARO is cheaper BUT I have never felt 100% confident/confortable with using ARO on all wheels for fear of damage. Surf City can be used on all wheels so the extra money is well worth the peice of mind. Another point is the Surf City spray bottle gives you more control of the amount of product being used so I actually used less.

I lightly misted the ARO wheel with water prior to ARO application as opposed to PW becuase I did not want to PW any of the dust off.

You are very welcome Al.... If this even reomtely befefited one person than the efforts it took to document this were not in vain..Heck I would have done this even if i didn't plan on posting but without the pics.
