Why not just keep about a inch from your trim when you use polishes waxes etc. or even tape it up? And if you do get some on your trim or its already on your trim, just clean with alcohol and dress with Solution Finish.
Abrasive liquids should not come into contact with rubber, faux chrome or textured plastic trim pieces, as it can damage them by a abrading the finish and/or staining.
Tape them off.

not necessarily true. I've used poli-seal to help remove a layer of oxidized rubber seals and it has helped to create an even matte finish. Also, though it isn't technically abrasive Klasse AIO is another good product that has extremely minimal polishing ability's but will not leave any white residue on trim or rubber and will actually enhance and protect it. Also, I haven't personally used it but poorboys polish with sealant might be another product that would be ideal for the OP.
