David, a very good customer of Autogeek made the trek to Autogeek to pick up some supplies and show me his black 2012 Dodge Challenger SRT8 to get some recommendations.

In this shot, the finish on this Challenger looks pretty good...




The sun poked out from behind the clouds and revealed the true condition of the paint...









Water Spot Imprint Rings
These are called Water Spot Imprint Rings. The clear coat finish is actually lightly etched at the perimeter of the ring. For this reason, washing won't remove the ring, wiping with some type of water spot remover won't remove the ring and claying won't remove the ring. The paint will need to be machine polished to remove the shallow etching.






If he gets anxious and buffs it out then we're here to help him if he holds off then we'll probably ask him back for either a video or class.

Mike, Thanks for the advice when we visited on Thursday. It would be great if this car could be in one of your Thursday night sessions or in a video. I've purchased the Porter cable and quite a few Pinnacle products, but I'm still nervous about actually using the polisher on this car since I have never used a polisher before. Right now, I'm just washing it and putting Pinnacle Souveran paster wax on by hand.

57BorntoRun, I did pick up some products for this car while visiting on Thursday. One of the items was the foam cannon, which I have been looking at for some time as something that my 7yr old son could use to help me wash this car and my wife's SUV. We tried it out on Saturday morning and both of us absolutely loved it. I'll have to post some pictures of him helping me with the cannon. My wife also made the trip with me on Thursday and after we talked to Meghan and Mike at the shop, we convinced her that I should sign up for the September boot camp classes even though I'm just a "hobbyist" with this.

Nothing to be nervous about but I know from years of experience, learning to machine polish, especially a black car that's important to you is a lot easier to learn along side someone that knows what they're doing than starting out with no help at all...

Right now, I'm just washing it and putting Pinnacle Souveran paster wax on by hand.

The paste was is really meant for a finish in excellent condition and you're car's paint needs a little help first...
