I think Guz was referring to protection such as wax/sealant/coatings. Which of those do you have on hand?

That would probably work fine. I have an old bottle of WOWA sealant that I have been using on the 8 rims for my BMW just to use it up. I've gone to Black Label Surface Coating for the wheels on my other cars. All work fine. The coating lasts longer, though.

Wheel cleaner?
If so, you might want to test some the cleaner by working it in to a tiny piece of clay to see if it has any adverse affects. I don't think it will dissolve it, but you never know.
I don't think I've read of many people using iron removers as a lube for their clay. Maybe I missed it somewhere. Typically what I see recommended for paint is; wash, rinse, iron remover, tar remover (or vise versa), rinse, then your clay product.
Please let me know if I'm am wrong, or if iron removers can be used as a lube with a clay product to speed up the process.

Yes ONR can be used a clay lubricant. Directions say to use 2 ounces in 1 gallon of water.
I am curious to hear if anyone has tried using a iron remover with a clay product. Say spray with Iron X, let dwell, don't rinse, clay.
I am not sure about any of the other iron removers, or wheel cleaners that use this type of chemistry, but the Dub wheel cleaner has a slippery feel to it.
Sounds like a new project for Optimum PT!
Maybe Iron X Snow Soap as a lube?
