    clearcoat peeling

I recently bought a 2008 toyota 4runner and was planning on compounding, polishing and sealing with opticoat 2.0

It looks like the clearcoat in small spot about the size of a dime on top of front fender has peeled.

What should I do to? I hope this is isolated because I would hate to have it get worse on peel in other areas.

    Thoughts????

I see that a lot with Toyota's around here. The only thing you can do besides a repaint is to get a spray can of clear. Mask the vehicle and around the touch up area. When masking the area bend half the tape at a 45 degree angle where you are going to spray. This angle keeps from having sharp edges as the paint will hit the tape and bounce back leaving a soft appearance. Wait at least 24 hrs then wet sand lightly and compound/polish. It will never be perfect but better than what you have now. I would mask about 1 inch past the damage and apply sparingly between coats, remember you are going to wet sand and polish some of the new clear off. Also you need to scuff the surrounding damaged area and the basecoat lightly so the new clear will have something to adhere to. Good luck and hope this is isolated to one spot.

If it was me, and I just bought an 08 4Runner - I would take it to a body shop and get the panel repainted. This is assuming the rest of the car looks good. At home repairs look like at home repairs.

    IME Toyota paint is poor.

    Re: clearcoat peeling

Everything else looked fine just some clear is missing in only that spot.

    I don't get it.

Hopefully it won't continue anywhere else. Hopefully opticoat 2.0 will help prevent any further damage.
