What is the best product for polishing exhaust tips?

Part of my problem is I'm not entirely sure what my exhaust tips are even made of. I attached a picture below in case someone can definitively tell. If I had to hazard a guess maybe brushed stainless steel? These are on a 2013 Lincoln MKS Ecoboost. I don't think they are chrome and they feel very substantial if that helps at all. The pic itself makes it look a little worse than it actually is, but I'm really hoping to get the charcoal marks out and make it shine.

+1. Simichrome is an effective product. Great shine with a bit of wax in it as well.

I was looking for a metal polish a few months ago for my exhaust tips. I have an aftermarket Borla cat back and I went with Meguiar's DUB metal polish. It was new on the market and I decided to try it out. Worked out great for me. You may want to give it a shot. Mothers also makes a very good metal polish.

I use Collinite 850 and 0000 steel wool. I have no need to move away from these.

Re: What is the best product for polishing exhaust tips?

My vote is for P21s Multi-Surface Finish Restorer. I wrote up a review using it on my own exhaust tips earlier this year:

You may also want to consider picking up some P21S polishing soap to knock down the majority of the exhaust residue prior to using MSFR.

The P21S twins follow-up with BLACKFIRE’s Wet Diamond Metal Acrylic Sealant. Applying BF WDMAS will make future clean ups far easier.

yep. i clean with full strength Power Clean and agitate with the least aggressive tool that works (brush or 0000, depending on how bad it is), rinse, dry, then buff with an old MF and Optimum metal polish. or, 0000 and metal polish as an intermediate step then follow up with the MF and polish.

the later Optimum metal polish (blue, not pink) is really runny and thin, so a little goes a long way on a medium that will absorb it, like MF.

one warning: if you are going to coat the tips, don't use Optimum metal polish! the sealant in it won't let the coating bond and apparently it's pretty robust so i am not sure about IPA or eraser to get it off prior to coating. then again, if the sealant is tough, most people wouldn't coat anyway.

Collinite 850 and white diamond metal polish and sealant are my favorite metal polishes. They work great and leave behind protection that lasts.
