I find that using more than just 2 pads work best. I do clean my pads on the fly with 3 pads, and it still seems to gum up some. I would say 4 or 5 pad will be the number of pads to use, for me at least.

As for wiping off the compound, i've been able to polish to where there is very little to wipe off.
