Re: Just bought Mothers California Gold Clay Bar Kit

Man I wasn't even thinking. The guy who fixed the bad detail job on my car used the California water blade. I'm gonna order one here in a few.

Re: Just bought Mothers California Gold Clay Bar Kit

Anyone heard of using white distilled vinegar to remove waterspots from Windows? I tried the duragloss but its formulated for paint. Clay bar didn't do anything except for the side mirrors, it was useless on the Windows.

Vinegar can work on fresh spots. You can use the duragloss on paint.

Re: Just bought Mothers California Gold Clay Bar Kit

Well, I got the old water spots off of my windshield. Believe it or not all it took was Dollar General toilet bowl cleaner and a scotch brite pad. I did it before washing the vehicle, it rinsed right off and took the worse of the water spots with it.

I like that clay bar. Very pliable. I usually set it in the warmly car while I wash if its cold outside. Makes it easy to play with. I clay my car a lot more than twice a year. I might do it once a month.

Re: Just bought Mothers California Gold Clay Bar Kit

I've used the Mothers kit, and like it. I also used the Megs kit, and it's OK. The plastic box isn't that good in my opinion, a baggie works better.

I got water spots off windows with clay. I've also had some success with vinegar/water, and alcohol/water. I use a bug sponge to scrub the window with. Probably better methods, but I use what I have on hand, since I'm not a pro.

Hi Texarkana,
Not to be rude in any way, but are you sure you haven't ruined your windshield, and made it even worse?

Turning back the clock to 1981, I had taken a weekend vacation out in the country, when I came back, my 1980 Jeep Cherokee Golden Eagle was loaded with bugs.

The Windshield was a mess as well, and was having a hell of a time getting the bugs off, so out came the nice new green Scotchbrite Pad, and voila, bugs all gone lickety split.

Then a 1/2 hour later, went to pull the Jeep out of the garage, hit the bright sun, and it was one big OMG! My Windshield looked like I had cleaned it with 100 grit sandpaper!

It was permanently, and totally destroyed. That was a little $250 mistake, as two days later, I had a new Windshield installed. The only consolation, was I didn't destroy any other Glass. Mark
