Overspray on painted wheels

I have a 2008 Z4 with silver painted wheels. I bought the car used so I have no idea what it is but it looks to me as though at some point the right front wheel has been repainted probably from curb rash. When I bought the car I didn't see any signs of rash on the wheels just the normal black dust on the inside of them so I wasn't concerned. When I went to clean it up to my standards that's when I found the overspray on the insides of the right wheels. It looks like they sprayed the wheels with clear and didn't clean the inside of them and painted right over the brake dust. I've tried a light compound and clay so far and neither will even touch it. Believe it or not you can see where the guys fingers wiped off the brake dust as he handled the wheel before sraying it. I have clean finger prints sealed in the back side of my dirty wheels.lol

Re: Overspray on painted wheels

Other than stripping the clearcoat you are likely out of luck. I would suggest using something like Klasse AIO to clean the barrels well. Then coat with a sealant like Rejex for extra protection. Clean outside with a good safe wheel cleaner and Daytona Wheel Brush.

Re: Overspray on painted wheels

Thanks for the reply. I'm thinking wet sanding is going to be my only option at this point. When I started cleaning them I started on the right side and thought damn these a rough on the inside and couldn't get them clean. Then when I moved to the left side it became apparent to what was going on with them as the lefts are nice and smooth. Luckily the fronts of the wheels are nice so if all else fails then a sand and respray on the insides is all that will need to be done. I was really hoping to avoid that though.
