Mike's hit the nail on the head and I hope it's something that's on the surface and not in the color coat itself.
Clear coats not only provide a protective barrier or film, they are formulated with UV inhibitors retard or lesson the sun's impact on the color coat. Even with the new formulations and ingredients the color will still fade but more evenly and much more slowly.
Stripes
While vinyl stripes look great, they keep the paint beneath it shrouded in darkness. This darkness protects the finish even more however keeps the finish from fading equally...
With single stage paints you had more control to even the color because you were working the color. Today's cars and trucks for the most part are cleared so if it's not in the clear coat the only permanent solution is to refinish the section...
