Who makes the blackest of black paint

I am going to have my 1969 z28 camaro painted black with white stripes. Any suggestions as to who makes the blackest of black looking paint? (basecoat/clearcoat). From what i have read on the web, ppg triple black and sikkens makes a very black looking paint.

no metallic flake, no pearl then make your clearcoat application tinted or mixed with black?

Maybe locate and join a discussion forum dedicated to painting cars and see what kind of input they offer?

I know both 3M and PPG make a base black. IIRC they are the cheapest color you can get. I do know that it is a very deep black.

Re: Who makes the blackest of black paint

You could also check with the paint mixers at your local PBE stores for their opinions...

Re: Who makes the blackest of black paint

Hi Ohio from MI.

My Dad owned an auto paint supply store and sold auto paint to hundreds of body shops and dealerships. I grew up in body shops looking at paint jobs.

(I love great paint, especially black!!!)

Many things have change drastically in auto paints, but still equally important in paint jobs is "the job", ie how much work is put into the prep , painting and post work.

All paints are a combo of many colors even blacks and whites. Find an accual car with a black you love (as long as you know your ordering a fatory color or if custom (what it is). Then order that color model year and color code.

Find a car with a great color and paint job and show your painter that's what you want.

In high school two friends had new "69 Z-28s. One a white with black sripes the other yellow with black stipes. We would drive around with both cars and always get lots of attention. Have fun with your Z!

Good fortune with your paint,

Allan

Re: Who makes the blackest of black paint

BMW Jet Black without question is the deepest & darkest black. It's also one of the softest paints available so BEWARE.

Re: Who makes the blackest of black paint

Mike, post up that picture of the old Ford Pick Up done in single stage black... That picture is burnt into my collective memory as the deepest most intense black I have seen...

edit: went off searching for said picture...

edit 2: FOUND IT! Linked from other website - please advise if this is unacceptable and I will pull it down.
